Audi Q7: Safety Precautions

Safety Precautions when Working on Vehicle

Pay Attention to the Following to Avoid Personal Injury and Vehicle Damage:

  WARNING

Risk of injury and accident by accidentally engaging a selector lever position with the engine running.

Shift the transmission into "P" and set the parking brake to lock the electro-mechanical parking brake before working on a running engine.

Danger of poisonous exhaust gas with the engine running.

When engine is running, an exhaust extracting system must always be connected to the exhaust system.

Risk of injury through the radiator fan turning on automatically.

Disconnect the connectors before working near the fan shroud.

To Prevent Personal Injury, Damage or Destruction of Electrical and Electronic Components, Observe the Following:

  • Only connect and disconnect test equipment when the ignition is off.

  Caution

Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.

  • Follow the steps when disconnecting the battery.
  • Only disconnect the battery when the ignition is turned off. Refer to → Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr.27; Battery; Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

Safety Precautions when Working on Vehicles with Start/Stop System

Pay Attention to the Following when Working on Vehicles with A Stop/Start System:

  WARNING

Risk of injury if the engine starts automatically in vehicles with a Start/Stop System.

  • For vehicles with an activated Start/Stop System (recognizable from a notification in the instrument cluster), the motor can be started automatically if needed.
  • Make sure the Start/Stop system is deactivated when working on the vehicle (turn off ignition and turn the ignition back on if needed).

Safety Precautions during Road Test with Testing Equipment

If Testing Equipment Must Be Used During a Road Test, Observe the Following:

  WARNING

There is a risk of an accident due to distractions and improperly secured testing equipment.

The front passenger airbag poses a risk if it deploys during an accident.

  • Operating testing equipment while driving is a distraction.
  • Testing equipment that is not secured properly increases the risk of personal injury.

Always secure testing equipment on the rear seat with a strap and have a second person on the rear seat operate it.

Safety Precautions when Working on Subframe

Note the Following whenever Working on the Subframe:

  Caution

Risk of damaging the suspension components.

  • Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
  • Supporting the vehicle on the subframe or the subframe crossbrace, (for example, by a floor jack or similar device) is not permitted.

Safety Precautions when Tow Starting and Towing

  Caution

Risk of destroying the transmission.

  • If the vehicle needs to be towed, make sure the selector lever is in "N" or the parking lock must be emergency released. Refer to → Chapter "Emergency Release from P".
  • The vehicle may not be towed farther than 50 km (31 miles) and not faster than 50 km/h (31 mph).

  Note

The engine cannot be tow started, for example, if the battery is too weak or if the starter is not working.
